Britain Braced For Huge Spider Invasion
There is bad news for arachnophobes this autumn with conservationists predicting an increase in spiders in our homes and gardens. The charity Buglife said breeding conditions are perfect this year for British spiders like the daddy longlegs (or cranefly) and house spider. Nature-lovers may be pleased with the news but it is likely to send spider-haters running. Autumn is typically the season when arachnids turn up in houses and garages, often causing dramatic reactions in home-owners. The charity is also asking householders to poke around in their sheds and in dark corners in their homes to see if they can spot 10 species over this weekend or the first weekend in October. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20090925/...s-870a197.html dunno if they mean HUGE invasion or HUGE spiders, but either way i'm already ever-so-slightly freaking out."..asking householders to poke around in their sheds and in dark corners in their homes to see if they can spot 10 species..." - yeah, right ![]()

![]() Reminds me of a story my uncle told me. He was out camping in Spain but the weather was so good that he decided to just roll out his sleeping bag on the beach somewere. He just went out to the nearby bushes to take a leak and when he came back, crawled into his sleeping bag, he noticed something hairy, moving down at his feet. He'd zipped close the sleeping bag so all he could do is to kick and tramp on the moving hairy thing untilit stopped moving. When he opened his sleeping bag he discovered the slimey remains of the biggest tarantula he'd ever seen. I guess he was lucky in a way ![]() |
